All major Spanish ports will face several days of major disruption, from February 20 to February 24, as the country’s dockers take strike action in response to government plans to issue a decree dismantling existing dock labour legislation.
Shipping companies are already reported to be making plans to divert some vessels to French ports over the strike period. There have been reports that cargo-handling activity has already begun to slow at some ports, including Barcelona.
The government’s decree seeks to bring Spanish dock labour legislation into line with European Union single-market legislation.
