Trucker frustration is building after hundreds of drivers waited in line — some for six hours or more — at APM Terminals at the Port of New York and New Jersey, as the facility still recovering from a cyber attack on its parent company, Maersk Group, got hit with higher than usual post-holiday traffic
Truckers said there seemed to be no improvement in the speed with which cargo could be delivered to or picked up from the terminal in Elizabeth, New Jersey. The Association of Bi-State Motor Carriers said dramatic improvement did not appear imminent.
The terminal reopened Friday after being closed for three days by a cyber attack that stripped Maersk’s operations globally of the ability to receive electronic bookings or communicate with customers. APM Terminals has extended its regular day by three and a half hours and opened Saturday to help smooth cargo handling, but has been hampered by the continued lack of computers. In Elizabeth, terminal employees at the height of the problem had neither email nor telephone access, and the terminal said Monday morning that it was using “manual processing.”
