European Dockworkers to Hold Two-Hour Strikes on June 29

There will be a two-hour strike taking place across European ports on June 29, with all dockworker activities ceasing from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.

This stoppage has been called to support Spanish dockworkers in their current conflict and to “fight the ultra-liberal model of the European Union that goes against the interests of workers and trade unions.”

The IDC also intends to devise a strategy to support dockworkers in the port of Gothenburg, Sweden, “who are waging a battle against attacks on their job security from the large maritime corporations.”

The IDC European Zone Assembly that met in Koper, Slovenia on June 8 and 9, where the decision was made to strike on June 29, brought together dockers’ delegations from Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Greece, Malta, Montenegro, Portugal, Britain, Spain, Slovenia, Sweden and Latvia.
